Focus Points for July Assessment

Contextual Focus

Thoughts for Lit reviews and maybe doing an additional one to replace one of the others

  1. Rhizome by Delueze and Guattari

  2. Futures Thinking

  3. Slow Art Movement

I have been considering the slow movement because time (waiting while nature does it thing) is such a big part of the making process. I was thinking about slow fashion and started looking at the “arts” version. I think maybe this creates a good link for my work. But need to find a good text for it still.

“The Slow Art Movement encourages the deliberate creation and consumption of art. Similar to movements in fashion and food, the Slow Art movement exists to remind us that every piece of art in the world, be it painting or sculpture or tapestry, was necessarily created with raw materials through a process that is, in itself, valuable. In that way, art is more than the final product. Art is the process of creation and the final product; it is the parts and the subsequent sum of those parts. And, the only true way to experience the gravitas of a finished piece is to fully immerse yourself in it”

“Creating art from a space of irreverence for the process and immersion in the craft is a specific energetic and emotional space that imbues that piece with intention. That’s slow art. It demands presence in the moment and connection to the subject”
