The Root System loom
Materials: Wood, acrylic, mesh, fabric, oats, soil, water
The ‘Root System Loom’ was included in the installation, ‘Infiltrating the Tree’. I devised the concept for the structure and constructed it.
The design enables the process of the root system growth, from seed germination to harvestable textile, to be observed in the mirror positioned under the loom. Carved templates or objects can be added to the water reservoir for the roots to form around and create patterned root system textiles.
