Surrender
Materials: Algae-based bioplastic, ink, on glass
2025
‘Surrender' is a performatively ‘oozing’ installation of biopolymer on glass panes that explores potential, transience and the essence of embracing ambiguity. Derived from algae, one of the most ancient life-forms and considered fundamental to the start and maintenance of life on Earth, the biopolymer is a material that embodies evolution, potential, and transience. Life is filled with uncertainties; in surrendering to moments of ambiguity, the opportunity for growth and transformation can be discovered. 'Surrender' is about resilience, having faith in process, and discovering the potential (and the beauty) that can emerge from the unknown. It is an invitation to trust in the journey rather than fixating on the destination.
This work formed part of a group exhibition, PLAY, alongside works by Lynette Fisher and Nadia Marychurch at Matter Gallery in Mount Maunganui, Aoteroa New Zealand.
