Where Two Worlds Meet
Algae Based Bioplastic, Sand
This artwork embodies the nature of estuaries as a place where freshwater meets the ocean and the fragility of their ecosystems. Components within the work are formed in collaboration with the ocean surf and are encased in bioplastic made with fresh water and an algae derivative. By choosing to work with an all-natural, biodegradable material, the artist reinforces the message that we must take responsibility for the impact we have on our natural surroundings. In certain conditions, the material will weep signifying distress from the impact of human disturbances and pollution. This ephemeral artwork serves as a poignant reminder of estuaries' fragility and the pressing need to safeguard them. Through engagement with this piece, we are encouraged to reflect on our own role in the ecosystem and to make changes in our lives that can contribute to a more sustainable future for all.
