Working on Glass III

In expanding on the idea of the Wrack Line and creating a different version of what I created previously, I took some bioplastic to the beach and worked directly with the wrack. The thermos worked really well to keep the bioplastic above setting temperature and fluid. With a very imprecise gestural movement, II poured the bioplastic over a small section of the wrack line (making sure I didn’t capture any live critters) and let it set to a point I could lift it and wrap it for transport to my studio. I placed this on a sheet of glass to cure, I didn’t think that it would adhere to the glass in this instance due to the sand on the underside. Over time the water evaporated from the bioplastic and left a work which captured the debris in the wrack line. Its very textural and organic.

My son says it looks like cat vomit… those in the art world will therefore love it! lol. Seriously, it’s not “beautiful” but I find it interesting because of the collection of natural elements contained. It is a snapshot of what the ever-changing wrack line on Papamoa beach looked like on Wednesday 21st of June. Next step for this is to make a wood stand for the glass to sit on as I cannot lean it against the wall.
